Sanctuary Music Technology 2003 - 2004

Sanctuary Music Technology 1999 - 2002

Here on the left, is the X2 in the original sanctuary set up.. this was taken in the 1st year of moving in to fort regents east bastion.. This was the original orientation in studio 1.. Until we had a massive flood that pored in through the white sloped ceiling above the desk :( 500 year old building and a years rain in 2 days is guna do it. An awesome location for the studio but back to the old water curse. A close up of the damage on the right.

Bouport House studio 1998 - 1999

Beauport house was an amazing place.. Views over St.Brelade bay, heated swimming pool & tropical gardens. The studio went upstairs in the largest bedroom joining on to the balcony were a coop of doves would fly around the property all day. I remember on the 1st night we stayed there, the news reported the death of princess Diana. we were only in this property for a year & in that time we were mainly focusing on Karen & new arrival Malachi.. Not much work done here really.. Perfect motion, lost with out you, winds of change. quite a few good party's though. The house was next to a closed nursing home & we found an old hospital theatre trolley in the garage.. We cleaned it up & used it to put the decks on.. Worked a treat :).

Gorey Village studio 1996 - 1998

This Studio in the basement of no2 Gorey Villas, Gorey village. Great to be able to just get up in the morning & go down to the cellar to work. Not so great being below the water table & so close to the beach.. Water would fill the wall cavities.. We had to punch holes in it to get the suction pumps in there..A couple of times we flooded totally out down there having to lift all the equipment up in to the lounge before it got wrecked.. & wait a month or so for it all to dry out again !. There was a very low ceiling in there too which really made the room sound great. We moved in to this house @ the same time as getting the Alesis X2 Desk, I remember setting the studio up while listening to underworlds 'dark & Long'.. Despite the flooding I managed a huge body of work in this little basement, including Positive light, Jelle Boufon & a string of the biggest Sunday club remixes. Coming home, Jarres oxygen 8, For ever & a day..

St Aubin's studio 1994 - 1996

This studio was housed near the harbour in the small fishing
village of St.Aubins.. A beautiful part of the island, shame we didnt have a view. Even though we were surrounded by concrete the daily noise did reach an old general living in a house next door. After a complaint was made local Environmental Health along with the landlord kicked us out & shut us down !! which was nice !. So many synth's.. My favourites in this set up have to be the Multimoog & the Korg wave station EX .. Also being pre digital Audio notice the Fostex 8 track in the rack on the left.. For those occasional vocals :) Also notice the Mac LCII computer sporting a blinding 44mhz speed !!! Water would leek through a dodgy air vent when it rained.. I use to have to cover the right side of the studio with bin bags before I went home.. Just in case :) sooo many memory's.

Sounds Workshop 1990 - 1994

Sounds Workshop was technically a Youth Centre that incorporated a recording studio & band rehearsal facility. I recorded over 50 bands here & used the down time to work on my own stuff. Sporting the old 'Studiomaster' desk & a rack of 'Drawmer' compressors & gates, the Fostex 16 track tape machine, some nice Tannoy little gold's, standard NS-10s & a massive live room.. Unfortunately places like this are usualy run by management who haven't got a Scooby doo about the business, Luckily theres a good team in there now & it offers great oppertunitys for the young bands on the island to get started.

Starmel Spain 1986 - 1988

The same set up as starmel jersey really with the addition of the Roland MKS80 super analogue synth, a lot of sunshine, some gin with Marbella & Puerto Banos down the road. It got so hot down there one time the pinch rollers were starting to melt on the tape machine. A great experience @ a young age. There are a lot of things I could talk about here but none are relative to the studio !! so I wont :)

Starmel jersey 1984 - 1986

Based in St.Ouens I would be up here straight from school till 1am every night. My 1st contact with Macintosh computers & MOTU Performer which had both recently been released. Yamaha DX7 , sequential prophet 2002 sampler (which was a mare) TR707 & 505 drum machines some buss-able mixers & the 8 track, I learnt so much here.. Not only with the technology but with song writing & structure working with matured musicians, vocals & guitar..

44 Jardin Des carruex 1980 - 1984

Well we all have to start somewhere ! I was 12 years old in that picture.. Notice the Yazoo "Upstairs at Eric's" Album !! I'm still listening to that today.. Under there would have been, OMD, Jarre, Buggles, human league, Depeche Mode. Great to see the old Bontempi organ too.. It was like 2 hairdryers blowing across some reeds.. Amazing amount of noise just being switched on. If you look above it there's a Casio VL1-tone.. Mad little synth, used in that 1 hit wonder by trio "Dar Dar Dar" & also for the melody in the human leagues "Get Carter" from the dare album. On the right, now 14 & im my Grainville school uiform with my trusty Casio cz5000 with built in sequencer & 8 part multitimbrle !. Which unfortunately got nicked on the way down to Spain 2 years later. I did have a Casio CZ101 with the mini keys which was a great little synth too but I dont seem to have any pictures of it anywhere.

Maret court 1974

I think this must have been my 1st keyboard as such!! But other keyboards that have played an important part have to be mentioned..

Roland SH101
what a machine, a timeless classic hours of fun & education, clean sweet analogue. Great for those arpeggios & top lines as well as smooth bases

Korg MS20
The other side of the analogue coin, dirty, wild & ultimately original. awesome for sweeping sci-fi FX, dirty basses. amazing amount of gerth for such a small fellow !

Moog Multimoog
Everyone remembers there 1st Moog.. I should have never got rid of it :j , very unstable but what a lovely sound.. Id spend 30 minz tuning it with tiny screw drivers before I could record it. There is just an edge that all Moog machines have..
