For over sixteen years Marc Mitchell has been crafting his skills
as a music producer and composer, with countless labels and Dj's
wanting a slice of his emotionally charged electronic masterpieces.Under
the production guises of
Sunday Club,Humanmovement and Vantage Point (with Jimmy Van M)
he has honed a sound that is always reconised, respected and epic. There
is not a label within
the progressicve/trance movement that Marc has not graced at some
point in his career, and wasnt long before production credits came
in for TV and film. Marc is an electronic musician for the future
and one of the studio godfathers of the mordern sound.

As well as Go for Gold, there are also 2 other examples of sound design. 'Snakes & Ladders" & Beginners Luck"
last month i was lucky enough to do some more session work in LA ( via i-chat of course ) on a very exciting project. For the 1st Time since his death, Frank Sinatra's master recordings are being remixed. To test the water on what you imagine to be delicate ground, the 1st remix has been commissioned for & completed by J. SCott.G & his Summer Channel team. I recorded the new piano accompaniment for this new remix of Franks rendition of Cole Porters "Concentrate on you". You cant imagine how surreal it is to have a project entitled "Frank" on your computer. Understandably I'm not allowed to play you this remix as yet.. but if all goes to plan this will conclude to an albums worth of remixes to follow. The original recording is featured on the Album "Sinatra's Swingin Session"
Jimmy Van M has been back to jersey last month, together we are working on a remix of oliver liebs latest track for his new label. Jimmy will be returning later in the summer for some gigs in Jersey & some more remixes together. Jimmy's now living in Barcelona so its finally going to be a little easier to get together. No more jet lag sessions !! Video Diary of Jimmy's visit will be available soon.
Im Producing a new track for New Zealand songstress Sophie Moleta "Te-atawhai" is to be Sophie's new single & is funded by the new Zealand arts body "NZONAIR". Its such a beautiful track, i cant wait to start.
The MM remix of Orkidea's Beautiful is out now on FIVE AM, the newly recorded collaboration track "Eternal Love" will be previewed to the world in 2 weeks time. There are plans for collaboration on 2 more tracks for Orkideas upcoming compilation for universal. Orkidea's visited the island a month ago, It was great to finally meet the man after all these years. It gave us the chance to work together on the track & he did a gig for us while he was here. As usual with our visitors, the video diary will be up shortly for your viewing pleasure.
MM remix of Deepsky's "Ghost" has as you know been signed by Release Records in canada. Promos have been spotted. Girl Nobody's "Hello Its Me " has had its release delayed until september, remixes provided by my Myself & Steve Porter. visit www.releaserecords.com for more info.
Last Month our Fortress studio Sanctuary Music Technology Closed its doors for the last time. With all the will in the world, these rooms were now just beyond reasonable use any more, with most of the facility being held back by consistent water damage & maintenance. We also received no government funding which meant my creative income was all that was paying for this space to remain open. Dan & myself made a video of our last day there, which will be in the video diaries shortly. But as you all know I'm the eternal optimist, "There is no Silver lining without a cloud to start with" , I have had my eyes on many studio locations over the years. And lately another of Jerseys unique historical buildings has come up for proposal on use. I have spent the last 3 weeks working on a proposal for my studio relocation to this building & now it is public i can share this with you all.
This Look out tower & Bunker originally built by the Germans during jerseys occupation in the second world war was modified 35 years ago & the glass top viewing room added. It has been a shipping radio station for the last 30 years. Now with GPS devices & satellite technologyies, this radio staion is just not needed & in september of last year was handed back to 'Property Services' who control the public buildings here in Jersey.
Things are never that easy, especially in jersey. Our local tourism body also wants the tower.. they would like to turn it into a luxury holiday flat for visitors !!!. I know i know.. this rates up with the other great decisions jersey has made, like Building a Cinema where there was once a beach & hollowing out a granite hill to catch the rain water. the average age of tourism's visitor to jersey is 56 years old !!.. so you can imagine the conservative dimensions myself & other creatives are sometimes up against here. If you feel like supporting my new studio please email Chris Clifford @ the Jersey Arts trust with your words of support. Where it will be added to our case.
I must take this opportunity to Deeply thank everyone that helped with this proposal, the support is overwhelming. If destiny allows, the tower will soon be my new musical home for me to continue to make the music, that like a fountain of posibilities, leads to so many other things for so many other people. Every part of my body is crossed & the Angels are working over time..
On a technical note, 2 things i would like to tell you about, the 1st is MOTU's new Symphonic instrument.. its finaly out & sounding amazing, this will be my staple orchestra when it arrives in the next few days, check out all the info & wonderful demo @ www.motu.com.
Secondly , Numark have released their new & the 1st ipod docking mixer.. WOW, even i want one of these..it was enevitable, but now finally out there, over the years ive seen so many DJs with tonnes of records to carry, over the last year its finally switched to a case of CD's , now i expect all the visiting DJ's will need is their i-pod. & not a moment to soon.
For the MM Members this month Sunday Clubs Classic Furry Freaks "Soothe" remix is up for download. This was the 1st tune to be made in the sanctuary music technology so i thought it apt to be this months download with the sanctuary now closed.
Do Not be alarmed though, even though the studio has now closed, work has not stopped.. I'm currently firing on all cylinders from the corner of my lounge on the Apple G5 Purring, headphones rocking. having a wail of a time.. For 6 years I've had to look after bands rehearsals in the evening, now i get to see my son malachi every day & night, eat with the family & am generally Loving it @ home through the summer. Next week i will be finishing my 1st DJ set for many years, its a 74 min digital set to be featured on Proton radio next month to coincide with the "Lost in the moment" release & the remix competition. I'm having a ball on this, every tune i feature is a classic electronic track, but remixed by myself, making every track on the set an exclusive. The Mix will 1st be aired on Proton, then avalible via the Members section, To wet your appetite the track listings include classics from Vangelis, Pink Floyd, Kraftwork, Georgio Moroder & many more, All newly remixed by myself for this set.
Other work I've recently completed is music for the research company "Latitude" corporate Promo, with graphics from Liquid Light Rob Day, take a look in the "music for" section in the left of this page. "Breath Of Fresh Air" another tune with Paul Le Claire Following on from "Summer Skies", take a listen to the preview in latest productions.
Next on the agenda. Finishing 'Eternal Love' Orkidea. Sophie Moleta "te-atawhai" 5 episode program for Jersey Wildlife TV presenter & Producer Sue Daly.. 2 remixes for the new 'L2' music Label in Germany , More "Van M" remixes, 5 more online game sound designs. Continuing work on my solo album.
Next post we will know if we have our new studio Location, Until then, enjoy the music & the summer....
ADDS UP
Another eventful couple of months fly by, lots of changes as March always tends to bring..
Its always nice to work on other projects away from, but using the experience of the dance arena.. working together with Scott from Deepsky in LA. I've had a few nice opportunities to make music & sounds for some projects & adverts.
Example's are the Scion car adds which you can watch "1-here" and "2-here" or in the music for TV section (left margin).. fast cars, sublime spaced out FX & a sound for every action are the order of the day here.. music has also been worked on for land-rover. What's next ?, its always a surprise. 24 hour deadlines are fun both of these adds were completed @ home solely on the new G5 set up.. its nice to have the option of working at home again, last time i did that was beauport house back in 98.
Back on this side of the atlantic pond, i have just had music added to web gurus Liquid Light 2005 promo & diversely (but fun), commissioned by E-scape Interactive to make the sounds for the UK national lottery's on-line "Snakes & Ladders" game !
Im my last diary post ( now in archive @ the bottom of page ) I told you all about the "Infinite Energy" documentary . As is usual, delays in filming & production have pushed back both the "Infinite energy" documentary & the next Sue Daly project "Wild File" both these programs are still in production & now expected to be complete for the end of the summer.
SUMMER RELEASES Talking of the summer, there will be a few goodies hitting the store soon. the Marc Mitchell remix of Orkidea's "Beautiful" will be out on FIVE AM records in may. my remix of Girl Nobody's "Hello its me" in june on release records & thankfully & finally it looks like the legal wranglings are sorted for the release of the Deepsky original & MM remix of "Ghost" in July.
Also expected for release this summer is the Mitchell, Paul Le Claire collaboration "Summer Skies" on John PItchers new "Tiger shade" records.. I spoke to John last week, he's currently selecting people to remix the track. we are still awaiting the newly recorded string arrangement back from india to complete the final mix.
VISITERS
After the great response from the "Beautiful" remix Orkidea & myself are now collaborating to complete another of his tracks, "Eternal Love" . Orkidea arrives here on the 22nd of April.. so expect a video diary following the project ;)
Another visitor is the welcome return of Scott from Deepsky in july.. scott has been busy on his solo album project "Summer Channel" I've been doing some session keyboard work for this album over the internet, although there's a 7 hour time difference between here & L.A its nice to know session work can be achieved via ichat & the internet exactly 5447 miles away from this stunning but limited rock that i call home.
MEMBERS Staying on the subject of Mitchell / Deepsky collaborative. "Lost in the moment " is also soon to be released. We are looking for a flip side remix to join us on the release itself.. In the next few weeks parts will be available for a joint forum competition, allowing all of you to remix this epic colabaration. This remix competition may also be run with the wonderful global companion that is Proton radio, I will keep you posted ;).
If that wasn't enough of a give away The Sunday Clubs remix of "Talk Like a stranger" is finally yours to own in the Members section this month, we're also celebrating our 200th member. Im so chuffed @ the small but true community we have on there. From remixes to originals, advice & support on mixes & music tech techniques, it's all there.. Thanks to all involved. It makes the geographical walls of this island dissipate knowing the music is around the world.
Adding the cherry on the cake in the Members section this month are 4 mix sets from Stuart King & Mikey Ashford. Just Back from 3 months of awesome gigs in Brazil. As Stuart had his apple powerbook with him the boys have bought back live recordings of some of there busiest nights together as well as there most recent solo sets. Again head to the Members section to listen. Stuart & Mikey are already booked for the season in ibiza this summer & are rapidly building up there UK gigs as well.
STUDIO 5.1 - WORK IN PROGRESS I've now set the main studio up in 5.1 , oooh, wot fun I've started 3 tracks & all is going swimmingly. There is a new format now released that is going to go a long way towards helping the industry move over to 5.1 audio.. Dual Disc is already available in the USA & will soon be landing on our European shores.. With DVD on 1 side & CD on the other, this format will allow for many combinations of stereo or 5.1 audio, video or data.. Dual disc is set to rapidly replace all new disc based releases. you heard it here 1st ;).
I've got 3 tracks on the go @ the mo, I've bounced down from 5.1 to stereo, 1 minute of each into a montage .. listen to work in progress "here", again the advantage of working a bit @ home is doing wonders for my multitasking ;) these are 20% ideas people don't expect the MM whooshville straight off the bat. Its just a start.
MOVING ? I have been based @ fort regent now for 6 years, its a wonderful location. On this small island one of the few places a home can be found for us "persistent noise makers" but being 500 years old, the bastion that i occupy is rapidly getting beyond my ability to maintain. I am currently looking @ 3 options to relocate.. Im looking @ some amazing places but Im loathed to share them @ the moment through fear of getting too let down if they don't happen. One is confirmed, i find out about the other 2 choices next week.. as soon as i know, believe the pics are to good not to post up for you all to see.
